Overview
Personalized Boat Excursions on the Kona Coast of Hawaii Scuba Diving in Kona is the best in the whole state of Hawaii. The Big Island has three big volcanic peaks which protect the Kona Coast from wind, rain and big ocean swells. There are no rivers or streams on this side of the island making the underwater visibility over 100 feet on average. The reefs are healthy and vibrant with finger coral, plate coral, cauliflower coral, and huge antler corals, just to name a few. The water is calm and warm with an average temperature of 80 degrees.
Hawaii, being situated smack dab in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, allows for some AMAZING critter interaction. As the currents move around the world, they bring Pelagics and a wide variety of marine mammals. The rule of thumb in Kona is to expect the unexpected. The following is a list of animals which have been seen on dives or on surface intervals over the last couple of years:
- Humpback Whales
- Sperm Whales and Pygme Sperm Whales
- Short Finned Pilot Whales
- Pygme Killer Whales and False Killer Whales
